Hi Everyone,

The first weekend of this years 10 GHz and Up Cumulative is coming up on
August 21 and 22.

I plan to rove again this year. Depending on Covid and hotel openings in
Iowa I want to start at East Prosper, EN43bm and then follow the route I
have used before. Spring Grove, EN43en (with a chance to work K2YAZ if
there is no corn). Then Eitzen, EN43gm, and depending on who is on in
Wisconsin and Illinois, a short stop at the Eitzen Church as it has
views to the SE. Next Hanover, Iverson Bridge Road, EN43fi (with maybe
another try with K2YAZ). Then NE of Frankville, EN43ef, SSW of
Postville, EN43ea. Some of which may have a shot to W9ZIH and others in
that direction.

Next are a couple of new sites that I have found and hope will be good.
I had hoped that Dr Jerry would rove with me this year and be able to
check out these sites. Sadly, that will not be the case.

I have a site the that is SE of West Union, EN42cw. It looks good from
the Google Earth photos. It's been a pretty good area as we have operated
from five other sites that are within five miles.

Next is another new site between Arlington and Volga. It's about a mile
south of a site that Pete, K9PW, and I used a number of years ago. It
offers very good views to the south as well as other directions. With
that in mind I have been in contact with the St. Louis ops and have been
shown two excellent sites that they have overlooking the Mississippi
River. Great views to the north and east. If they are willing to drive
to one of those sites I would like to run with them. Unfortunately their
drives are an hour to an hour and a half just to get there. This should
be near the end of the day for those of you back in the MN and Wisconsin
so there should be time. The distances are reasonable too, under 400 km.

If there is still time and anyone is around I have another site near
Edgewood, EN42gp that looks good and is near a site we have used before.
Alternatively there is a site NE of Oelwein that we have used may times
on Sunday mornings.

Sunday would start south of Oelwein and move west from there to near
Dunkerton. Then north on US 63 using sites from previous years. Most of
them are guaranteed good sites to the north. Again if the St Louis ops
are on I have a couple of early morning sites to run with them too. Also
any Wisconsin and Illinois ops who are available. But most of the north
looking sites aren't good to the east.

I would like to work the Wisconsin and Illinois ops three of four times
during the weekend. Usually early in the morning or later in the day.

Of course all this depends on Covid. With the Delta variant on a steep
rise and most of the Iowa counties having less then a 50% vaccination
rate there might not be any place to stay. Many of the Iowa counties are
in the mid to low 40% for vaccination rates.

Who would like to rove with me? What do the rest of you plan to do?
Where do you think you will operate? We can have a discussion at
"coffee" this evening.

73, Gary WBØLJC
