After being out of contesting and such for a long while, I decided to give the new FT-817 a little run with the Comet multiband on the truck. Definately need to get a bit more power...and learn the thing a bit better. tried to get ahold of N0AKC, but i realized AFTER the fact that it was somehow doing a split frequency operation...oh well. Also heard NE9U K1KK, and a strong K7BV, but my lil QRP signal wasnt apparently cutting through. even so, i managed 10 contacts and 9 grids in probably a total of 3 hours operation of search and pounce out in front of my store and en route from home to the store. September may see me with 4 bands...possibly rover again, though no promises and hopefully more than QRP. i will be doing a test run with a- little 222 xverter. 5 watts gives I think, 10 watts out running on a 28 mhz Input. In any case, I recognized a lot of calls out there, and lots of unfamiliar ones.
other future contest possibilities, if i find time to configure the truck and such, might be the cqww vhf, IARU, and FD.
Good to be back out. 73.
