Hello NLRS land
My previous email regarding ARRL club affiliation and club contesting rules had a few errors. Let me try to clarify and correct.
First, yes, one of the several requirements that has to be met for a club to compete in the ARRL club competition is that the club has to be affiliated with the League. In my previous email I stated that the threshold for ARRL club affiliation was that the club had to have 2/3 of their members also be ARRL members. My idea was right, my threshold was wrong. The correct threshold for a club to be affiliated is that "at least 51%" of its members need to also be ARRL members. While we easily achieve this requirement it is something that our club secretary needs to track ... this is why we ask you if you are an ARRL member.
Second, the much discussed club eligibility list has nothing to do with club affiliation. These are two separate requirements. Club affiliation is determined by having at least 51% of all NLRS members also being ARRL members while the club eligibility list is a list of those club members (whether an ARRL member or not) that live within 175 miles of our club's center (EN24xx) and are thus eligible for contributing their scores to the clubs score.
So, in summary (I think), in order to compete in the ARRL's club competition we need to be affiliated (ie, more than 51% of all club members are also ARRL members) and provide to the League an eligibility list that documents those club members who live within 175 miles of EN24xx.
So with all that, lets play some radio this weekend !
