The August QST that arrived yesterday suggests much activity
transmitting near and in the eclipse path to be monitored by reverse
beacons.
It could be that a vertical is not the best ionospheric test source
because it is so effective at having a very low radiation angle so the
RF travels a long ways before hitting the ionosphere and the ionspheres
in only affected in a narrow path from the moon shading and even then
only converting from daylight to dark conditions momentarily. A NVIS
antenna radiating mostly straight up should be affected a great deal
more, but probably more on 20 meters and higher than on 80 or 40 where
NVIS is most popular for working nearby states.
