A few years ago Doug, NØNAS, supplied a some of us with
surplus MACOM equipment that was used for point-to-point
WBFM links near the 24 G band. There was a push to get these
units working on the 24 G band. Conversion information was
supplied but the projects ended up sitting on the bench. There
has been renewed interest in getting these units on the air.

A similar situation exists with the light (LED) communications
project. Parts have been purchased and PC boards have been
made, some have been populated but the projects have stalled.

In an effort to get these projects moving again I challenge
those of us who have these items sitting on the bench, and
to anyone else who wishes to join us, to get those 24G WBFM
and light projects on the air for next years SBMS 2.3 GHz and
Up contest. The contest usually occurs in the first weekend in
May. We usually operate one of the two days (Sunday) with
a small rover group, a fixed group and a few home stations.
We seldom operate on Saturday. I suggest that we put
these new bands on the air Saturday. We can operate
like we did in the old 10 G WBFM days where there were
a few stations at Indian Mounds Park in St. Paul, the
rovers traveled South to Idell Ave, New Trier, maybe Cannon Falls
and where ever else we could find to make Q's. We may have
to look somewhere else to operate light as I don't think there
are optical paths to the above sites.

The SBMS contest is the first weekend in May. That's less then
six months away. Who is up for the challenge?
