There was some chatter about this during the CQWW VHF contest this
past Sunday. I spent a half an hour or so chatting with W9ZIH during
the contest. He said he thought maybe the beacon was hit by lightning
in the severe storms that went through that area on Thursday. Karl
showed up later and I heard him chatting with W9ZIH. He hadn't gone to
the beacon site yet.

I was also hearing the W9MUP/B beacon on 144.001. Very close to the
band edge. It is supposed to be on 144.290. I suspect it lost power
and then the transceiver came up by default at 144.000. Not sure but
it seemed odd to be on that frequency.
