Hello Doug !! Welcome to the contesting realm here in Minnesota !! Well , just 'look around" on and somewhat near the advertised calling freqs of 144.200 and 50.125 - I always keep my vfo moving and make QSOs from 144.100 to 144.250 on 2 meters .....
Now to the Good , Bad and the Ugly of contesting in Minnesota - : when you get comfortable and have an optimized station , THERE WILL BE A COUPLE OF INDIVIDUALS that will intentionally intimidate you here as well as on the air ( including the contest spreadsheet ) . I have also found that these individuals have intentionally left out of their logs the QSOs that I have had with them to create disparity with my own logs sent in ( it is called Log Checking Reports , occurring on multiple contests !! ) .....
Doug , just get on and have fun - I will do some CQing on Saturday afternoon on 144.205 + / - and will look for you in earnest ( you will hear me from up here in Milaca - EN35 ).
As I close here , I have accepted the desperate childish actions of the jealous few to be a compliment to the efficiency of my single yagi station ( If the offending stations want to email a formal apology , I wont send my Log Checking Report info regarding unsportsman like conduct into the ARRL )....

I'm planning my first stab at a VHF contest this weekend.
Any tips for a little pistol (okay maybe squirt gun is more
like it)? I'd just like to give a few points away and have
some fun. I've got an Icom IF-7000 so 100W on 6m, 50W on 2m
and 35W on 70cm. I've got a G5RV on 6m up about 30ft
horizontally polarized and a J-pole up about 25ft vertically
polarized for 2m and 70cm.
Your help is appreciated.
73 de N8TUT Doug
