Heart breaking that John has passed, but given his medical condition it was for the best. So hard to say...
We were so very blessed to have known John (and family) for so many years. Our children were of similar ages and enjoyed family activities at CSVHF conferences and family visits separate to the conference.
When I lived in Grand Forks ND back in the latter 1960's, John and I ran 432 skeds for a long period of time. We had great success on the 260mile plus path. It was for these skeds that I took the 6meter Telrex beam off the tower and put up a "Tilton Array" ( H frame with 4 yagis). I didn't return to 6m until 2000. Great memories.
John and Ron Dunbar's earth station work for some of the early AMSAT birds were great contributions to our hobby. I still use today (for my 2m panadapter) the 2m solid state rec converter that John and Ron designed. Great pioneers in our VHF operations.
RIP my dear friend. Bill K0AWU
