Subject: [NLRS] Upcoming Contest: Promotion YOU can do

As several have mentioned, the contest is coming up. Last year,
activity was light even though the Packers had already been eliminated.
I sure hope we can beat last year's activity levels! The first step is
for EACH of you to get on the air! Activity begets activity. Second,
you can encourage OTHERS to get on the air. Badger Contesters and
Northern Lights really need to carry our promotion outside of our clubs
to those who don't normally get on.

How can you do that? By cranking up your own promotion of the event
with other clubs to which you belong. Either email your other clubs or
get their information officers to relay contest info for you. I've
composed some text below between the lines of "x's" that you might want
to copy and paste to your other clubs. Heck, edit it and improve it.
I'm gonna try and see if I can get the PVRC out of Richland Center to
receive the text below. What club can YOU hit up?

Janice and I will be out roving--I'll announce that in a separate email.

ARRL January VHF Contest Jan 18-19, 2014

What does this mean to me? Get on the air and enjoy the increased
activity!

Time: 1900 UTC (1300 CST) Saturday the 18th until 0300 UTC (2200 CST)
Sunday night

Bands: All Bands 6m and above. That means 6m, 2m, 222, 432, 902, 1296,
2304, 3456, 5760, 10368, and up

FUll details: http://www.arrl.org/january-vhf

Consider entering the new Single-op 3-Band (SO3B) category OR the new
"FM Only" category. THe SO3B category is aimed at the owner of an Icom
706 or similar rig (ie Yeasu 857/897)--an HF rig that ALSO has 6m, 2m,
and 432. The power limits are the ones native to those rigs.
The FM-Only category is aimed at anyone who wants to get in on the fun
but doesn't have a SSB/CW rig on those bands.

Wisconsin/Minnesota (and surrounding areas) need more entries in these
two new categories.

If you have SSB/CW on the VHF bands, check the standard calling freqs
AND make sure you tune around above and below--particularly on 2m. If
you are looking at FM, make sure you check 146.55, 146.58, 223.5, and
446.0 periodically. Many SSB operators check FM at the top of the hour
and at 30-minutes past the hour.

If you are in the Wisconsin/Minnesota (and surrounding areas), announce
your plans on a google spreadsheet at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=
0AvU0R8d2qq2DdGhRWUU3bTBVNzdGQ1R2VW1yLVhCRGc&usp=sharing

Questions? Ask! See you on the air!
