Hello!
I'm going to be conducting a merit badge session for Boy Scouts to earn the
Radio Merit Badge, in connection with Jamboree on the Air on October 19. This
will be in North St. Paul, and the time will probably be about 11:00 - 3:00.
K0BSA will have an HF station set up for demonstrating ham radio to scouts and
letting them make contacts, and I will be doing a "class" for the merit badge
requirements. I'll also be following up with a technician class in November.
The HF station is fully manned, but I could use an extra volunteer or two to
help with the merit badge session. You wouldn't have any duties in
particular, other than to be enthusiastic about ham radio, and possibly help
individual scouts with questions, showing them how to get WWV on a receiver,
etc. Something cool to show off, such as a rover station, a QRP rig, etc.,
would be an added bonus, but is not necessary.
If you think you might be interested, or have any questions, please let me
know. Because this is a BSA event, any volunteer would need to take the BSA
youth protection training. This is a short (about 30 minutes) video that you
can take online. (I can also let you know of a location where you could watch
it in person, but the online option is probably easier.)
TNX & 73,
Rick W0IS
