W0JT plans to run the VHF/UHF/Satellite station for the Twin Cities
Repeater Club (TCRC) in Burnsville, MN, under the callsign of W0BU. We plan
to bring out 6M, 2M, and 70cm. Last year, we caught no 6M eSkip and we had
a problem with our new mechanical setup that caused a pinched 2M feedline
that was not discovered until teardown. Hence we made virtually no QSO's on
2M, and made no successful satellite QSO's last year. This year we hope to
be a bit more careful with the positioning of the feedlines and have all
three antennas effectively connected to the radio(s). If I am going for
KISS, I will bring out the FT-847 and no external amplifiers, giving 100
watts on 50 MHz and 50 watts on 144 and 432 MHz. If I am a bit more
ambitious, I will bring amplifiers for 2M (150 watts) and/or for 70cm (100
watts) but the problem is that the FT-847 has only one power control knob,
and turning down the 2M power to 10 watts to prevent overdriving the 2M
amplifier also turns down the power to 10 watts on the other bands, so it
requires quite a bit of finesse to prevent blowing up an amplifier or
accidentally operating QRP instead of QRO.

It is also possible I will bring out 222 MHz just to get some practice for
the January VHF contest when I plan to be a 4-band rover in Texas. Time
will tell. But I don't expect many points to come from that band on Field
Day.

Recently, I've noticed that those with a casual exposure to 6 meters
(during
field day) have in many cases added 6 as one of their primary bands at

can't count on an opening. But, we can look for each other's field day
sites
if we know about your operation. So, make some chatter on this reflector
