(Home stations--hang-on, I've got a paragraph for you, too!!)
I'll be operating at the W9LO Field Day operation near West Bend, WI
(EN53wk). This is north of Milwaukee about 25 miles north of Milwaukee
and is the Ozaukee Radio Club. Janice KA9VVQ and I are filling in as
VHF+ band-captains for Gary N9UUR and Jeananne N9VSV.
While any FD site wants all the points they can get out of their VHF
station, our group is specifically using the VHF station as an outreach
to newer operators. Plus, since I personally like to promote VHF+, I'm
hoping to encourage VHF+ activity this weekend from home stations AND
other FD sites.
My point is, most FD sites wait for 6m to pop and then work it if it
does. I contend we have a fairly active VHF group here in the
BC/NLRS-land and have decent VHF+ activity levels on any VHF contest
weekend. IF the regular ops get on the air, there are VHF+ Q's to be
had--and activity is a good thing.
So, if you are at another FD site, please look for W9LO and other FD
stations on VHF. Either add your VHF plans or view (and print-out) the
other regional FD VHF+ plans at:
http://vhf-activity.blogspot.com/2013/05/vhf-field-day-plans.html I
know I'm going to print-out on Friday night and then look for the
stations listed there.
Most FD sites only do 6 and 2 meters. Please know that W9LO will have 6,
2, 222, 432, 902, no1.2, 2.3G, and 10G. Our site is not very high
altitude, but we'll be glad to try on ANY band you are willing to try
on.
If 6 is NOT open, please don't be surprised by our request to switch to
CW for an additional Q if we've already worked on SSB. It gives us
additional points, is allowed by the rules, and allowed by the ARRL band
plans RIGHT ON the same freq. Yes, I understand that we may have
beginners at the mike. But we may have a mentor near the radio who can
jump to the key for the extra QSO.
Home stations: If you are not going to a FD site this year, please know
you can really help all of us out from your home station. You will most
likely be "1D"--that's ok, we need Q's from you! Home stations, you can
really help raise the VHF+ activity by getting on the air.
Please forward this beyond the Badger Contesters and Northern Lights
Radio Society reflectors. And see you on VHF+ this weekend!
