[NLRS] FM in January Contest

Unfortunately Chris's joke comes all to near the technical ability of
most (many?) new operators. 40 years ago the common term was "golden
screwdriver" and it referred to the CBer (or other non-tech) who
tightened down all of the transformers, inductors, and capacitors in
the radio to achieve better
performance. And like Jerry, I can't count the number of times I've
heard old and new hams alike, comment how their S-meter didn't change
when the station on the other end of the repeater changed his power
output. The newbies are not alone in being clueless.
I wasn't on this weekend either. I was otherwise occupied all day
Saturday and completely forgot about it Sunday. I did write an email
to the local ARES groups a week before, but I don't know if there was
any activity because of it. I expect Art KB0LYL could tell us the most
about local VHF FM activity, if activity was up or down compared to
other years.
