The concern is your assumption (though that exists with ANY connector).

Did you try Googling "sma connector power handling"? ( 
https://www.google.com/search?q=sma+connector+power+handling )

One company's page I found from that search ( 
http://www.svmicrowave.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=productoverview.one&content_id=90&;

) stated 1.2 kW Peak but a later table on that same page stated the following 
for "average" power ratings (by Frequency):

100 MHz - 550 W
500 MHz - 225 W
1 GHz - 170 W
5 GHz - 60 W

Many MORE web sites showed up in the search. Your mileage (or power ratings that 
you experience) may vary.

Jerry, K0CQ's observation about cable power handling should be considered, too.
