[NLRS] 10GHz Backpacking Rig

I'm half-seriously considering going to Isle Royale for the August contest.
There is are at least two possible spots that could provide clear paths to
everything south of Grand Marais, including Wawa. It may involve
backpacking the gear over some distance however. The FT-817, the
transverter, and a dish strapped to my pack won't break my back (I'll only
be there a few days anyway.) Configuring the arm and feedpoint for
collapsibility might take some work. I have a carbon-fiber tripod for
photography so, with some additional work, that could do. I'm worried about
power source weight. LiPo, solar, NiMH all come to mind.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or know if any of those crazy folks
out in the Rockies have done something like this that I could learn from?
