Hello NLRS land
It looks to be an interesting weekend coming up. The ARRL January VHF contest begins at 1900 UTC (1:00 PM local) on Saturday, ends 0359 UTC Sunday night. The CME is predicted to impact on Saturday at 22:30 UT (+/- 7 hrs), which, if it happens, is great timing for the contest. Then on Saturday night through Sunday the weather man has been suggesting the possibility of some freezing drizzle/rain and maybe some snow. Rovers and yagis don't like freezing drizzle/rain, so lets hope this doesn't happen.
I plan to operate my home station for much of the contest; EN34it on 6m through 3456. If the weather permits, I plan to do a mini-rove on Sunday morning starting at 11:00am. The first stop will be Burnsville Parkway (EN34is) to try to work Bill, K0AWU, on 10 GHz. It looks like a few other Gigaheads may be joining me. After that, I'll be looking for Q's from any/all that can hear me. Here is what I'll probably be running - its not my usual rover set-up:
6m 100 watt into vertical
2m 40 watts into 4 element 144.235
222 10 watts into 3 element
432 10 watts into omni
5760 2 watts 27 dBi
10G 6 watts 31 dBi
Around 12:00 noon or so, weather permitting, I will move up to Stinson Parkway, EN35ja. After that, depending on activity levels and the weather, I may head out to the Winsted area for EN25 and EN24 before returning home to operate the end of the contest from there.
Good luck to every one this weekend. Get on, make a some Q's, and send in a log.
PS: I updated the W0UC spreadsheet with this info.
73, Jon
