Mike,
I'm a bit late to the party here so perhaps you already have
your answer.
I manage a machine shop and I buy lots of metal. I know of a
number of places in the Cities that would be a good choice
(I highly recommend Midwest Steel as being the most Ham
friendly). Seeing as you want non-UPS'able lengths you need
to find a supplier in your area lest the shipping costs make
this a bad deal.
You may want to try to contact Liebovich
http://www.liebovich.com/ as they have a location in Cedar
Rapids, they may deliver to you. Other then that consult the
yellow pages (remember those?) and look under metal
suppliers or aluminum. I'm sure you can find something
there. I would order this directly from EMJ (and they would
deliver to you) but I'm not sure they will deal with the
public...
Be sure to look for 6061-T6 tubing which is what most of it
will be. There will be some 6063 but its somewhat weaker and
not as good a choice. You may find some 2024 too but avoid
this alloy as without being anodized you will have serious
corrosion problems not to mention MUCH higher cost.
