Heh, heh. Kinda tougher and smaller than I originally envisioned :-) .
So I threw my back out on Thursday night playing Frisbee. So I went to a
Chiro on Friday morning and that cramped my style. Ok, the rain did,
too.
So I set the tray of radios in the car but due to the rain, decided not
to wire everything up--I'll do it later. Wrong move!
I drove 65 miles down the road to realize that I had forgotten the
AMPLIFIERS!!! You'd never hear me on 10 watts. (You might not hear me
at 150 either in the dense woods :-) ). So I had to go 65 miles back
home to get the amps. And THAT is why I was 2.5 hours behind schedule
last night. (And I skipped Langlade County)
I activated Florence county first. It seems to be behind a ridge. Sigs
were tough. Made 15 Q's. Longest was to W8BYA in EN70. Then I moved
to Forest county and I liked the altitude. But I'm pretty sure the path
to LaCrosse was RIGHT over (or blocked by) Rib Mountain. Paths to
LaCrosse were tough. Made about 12 Q's and then moved to the western
edge of the county hoping for a better shot at LaCrosse to make one more
Q. By now it's quite late. I moved in to Oneida county and made 4 Q's
with two stations. I'm gonna try from Oneida again today around
11:30-noon. I'll be near Woodruff, WI.
Anyways, with the amp debacle, I was rushed all yesterday and I don't
like that feeling. Both days of the CQ-VHF should be MUCH more
leisurely. Hope to work many of you from EN46,56,55,54,44,45.
Thanks to all of you who spent some time at your radio last night. Nice
surprises to K0KFC and K0KP.

Bruce
