It's time for Midwesteners to participate with the 144.205
activity, every morning, 7 days a week, from about 1245-1300Z
until about 1400-1430Z.
I'm sure many of you don't know that 7 mornings a week, a
fun group of weak-signal ops are making contacts across the
Eastern 1/3 of the USA. This takes place on 144.205, with
KA1ZE/3 in FN01xt as the focus (but not a net control, really).
You might say, " I'm not going to hear anyone in north-central
PA on 2m SSB." And you're probably right, 90% of the time.
But working KA1ZE is not the point here. The point is making
contacts with all the other stations that get on from MI, IN, OH,
KY, TN, etc. This is a cooperative, group effort with a goal of
always pushing the propagation limits and including more stations.
KA1ZE has asked me multiple times to help spread the word.
Stan wants to keep spreading the circle of activity farther and
farther. This is a particularly good time for some new Midwest
stations to get on board, because more guys will be near the
rigs the next few weeks, with time off around the holidays. If
you get on 144.205 and listen east, I imagine you will hear at
least some activity, and don't hesitate to drop your call in a
few times, and see if someone picks you up.
The ON4KST.com real-time V/UHF chat comes in very
handy here. I'm monitoring it this morning and at 1425Z, they
are in their 2nd hour of stations working each other, all around
the compass. Using this chat would be the optimum way for a
DX station to "raise their hand" and let the room know to look
your way.
