I don't know bout the ebay scene, but would be interested in hearing if
there are good tripods out there.

The nice tripods are the ones from Axe Man that are no longer available.

I've used a surveyor's tripod with a homemade adapter on the top to which
I mount a 1 1/4" flange and short pipe. The 1 1/4" pipe accepts a 1" pipe
on the dish. It's a sturdy tripod, but a little bit high. Setup time isn't
the fastest, but tieing a rope around the tripod legs to set the distance
between legs helps a lot.

I've used a speaker tripod, but it's also a bit high, and I've never come to
completely trust it. I use it for my 5760 "Barbecue dish", and for a shade
umbrella.
