Hello NLRS land:

Heads up that the Central States VHF Conference for 2012 will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Exact place and dates TBD, but please make a mental note of it now. Cedar Rapids is about 4.5 hours south of the Twin Cities and I hope to see a BIG NLRS turn out for this really fun VHF weak signal event. We also expect to see the CSVHFS.org website be much more active in the promotion of this event as the year rolls around. Stay tuned.

Second, and just in case you've been living under a rock, the ARRL UHF contest is next weekend. This is a really fun 222 MHz and up event. Don't forget that its just 24 hrs long, 1800 utc to 1800 utc, Saturday to Sunday. This gives you lots of time to cut the grass, family activities, etc. This represents the eighth year that NLRS has been pushing the UHF contest and supporting the NLRS Limited Rover Award. Remember that NLRS had a "limited rover" category a few years before the ARRL did ! The rules for the NLRS Limited Rover Award are as follows:

  1. Winners must have adhered to the full rules and regulations of the ARRL's UHF contest.
2 .They must have submitted a log. Winners shall be determined by review of the top two contest scores based on the data that appears on the ARRL's contest website.
  3. A NLRS Limited Rover is defined as a rover who competes with no more than three bands. The three bands may be any three bands of their choice and that are available for use during the ARRL UHF contest.
  4. Winners must have complied with the rules and the spirit of the ARRL UHF contest and may not have demonstrated unfair rover practices. Unfair rover practices may include grid circling, pack roving, or captive roving. Determination of this rule is at the discretion of the Club's officers

I do happen to know that some of the previous years NLRS Limited Rover Award winners will not be active for the full contest time period, so the award is wide open this year ! Winners can be located anywhere in North America.

Also, if you plan to be active, please indicate your activity on the W0UC UHF/Rovermania Activity Spreadsheet found at http://www.nlrs.org/home then click on the Rovermania Activity Spreadsheet link.

W0ZQ/R does plan to be out and about .... hope to work you !
