Hello NLRS experimenters and technically inclined. -

I am wondering if a technically savvy ham would like to spend some time
testing out a potential 220 MHz (perhaps even 144 MHz) solid state linear
amplifier?

I have access to a few RCA Hi-Band VHF 400 W PEP CCS solid state amplifier
assemblies. These were designed as broad band linear amplifiers to operate
between 174 to 216 MHz without tuning. This is only several MHz from the
220 MHz amateur band. I think there is a great possibility that these
amplifiers could make great high power amps for that band. It is also
possible that they could be made to work at 144 MHz as well.

I just haven't had time or access to a 220 MHz exciter to try this. So I am
looking for an interested ham with the technical know-how and resources to
test this out. You will need a 48 V DC power supply with a fairly hefty
current rating and a fan to cool the massive heat sink.

Is anyone willing to take this on?

The amplifiers were used in a high power VHF channel 7 through 13 television
transmitter. Similar amplifiers for low band TV channels 2 through 6 are
being used by hams as they make great six meter amplifiers.
