Just worked Gary W0GHZ (155miles) a few min ago on 10Ghz OFF THE DOCK ... tropo duct I guess.
Az was critical but elevation could be about anything. I picked up the tripod and pointed skyward and still Q5 copy.
Tower system signals were 45-50db above the noise SSB and CW ... portable 5-5 SSB. VERY cool, been a long time since we had tried the portable 800mw system off the dock. Nice to know it still works. The path was improved by about 5db over 9am this morning.
Path is down the lake for about a mile before trees and multiple 100' ridges for the next 12miles. After that, down hill as the Mississippi flows.
1296, 432, 222 and 2m were all good between Gary and I this morning at 9am as one might expect. Nothing pinning the meter
like we have experienced, but signals well over S9
DX VHF tropo wasn't that good here this AM, I did work W9UD EN41 on 2 and 222 SSB about 10am. Signals 5-5 and 5-3.
For example, elsewhere N0IRS (Kansas City) was being worked by K0MVJ (Duluth) and KD0KUK (Milica EN35) as well as Gary W0GHZ on 2m. GAry had some MO QSOs on 222 as well. N0PB and I think N0IRS too.
