First, about tonight's nets...
I just talked with KC9KPV Randy and if he's thunderstorm-free, he'll be
happy to take the 144.240 (7:15pm) and 144.250 (8:30pm) SSB nets tonight.
Randy's got a nice station and he's run the nets before, so please give him
some business tonight. I'm grateful to have an alternate net control.
Pay a visit to http://www.kc9bqa.com for a great post about increasing
June VHF contest activity. The post got long, because I ended up really
trying to educate/recruit any new (or even slightly interested) rovers. The
bottom part about the rovers has a lot of solid info that could help get even
a totally new guy/gal started.
I know that preaching roving gospel is sort of redundant in NLRS circles,
but your Club gets some more good press in my website update this morning.
You'll never know how much NLRS and Rovermania motivated me to do better and
reach out farther. By sharing my website with clubs other than the BC'ers, I
also show how we should all think about who's on VHF/UHF within several
hundred miles of our own QTH.
Even if you're busy right now, please consider doing this much: Print
the post out and save it for when you've got a little free time. Also, I
totally encourage you to share that post with anyone you think might be a
good roving candidate. Consider sharing the info with your local club. I
can tell you first-hand that I've gotten some new rovers from talking with
hams that have little or no VHF/UHF experience. Having the weekly nets has
also been key to getting them familiar and comfortable.
Though the rover deal is a long post, when one has a half hour to digest
what I'm saying, it may pay off in a big way. Please help by spreading the
word.
Think about what you can do to help promote the contests this summer. In
your backyard, and in your entire region. We all need each other.
Questions, feedback? Feel free to email or leave a comment at the
website.
Thanks for your time, 73,
