GM guys

Finding myself in possession of a beautiful FT857D unexpectedly (CSVHF conference prize), the "SoftRock guy" finds himself looking for insite.

I am VERY interested in hearing from rovers that have a system built around the FT857D. Particularly interested in the design philosophy for transverter use. 100W at 28Mhz could let out lots of smoke in a hurry, as could 50W at 144 for those 902 and up boxes.

At 2m are you keeping the output down and using a brick, forgetting the 50W the 857D has in favor of power control simplicity and more 2m power?

Similar issue at 432 ... relay for band selection, then a 432 brick I assume.

Power control for TX xverter input .... you depend upon the 857D power control? ALC control perhaps?

IS the Collins mechanical filter "required" if one is serious at all, sounds like perhaps it almost is!

This could prove interesting. I have not been 6m mobile since 1965 (My 1950's Nash Rambler was my last 6m mobile) dynomoter and all .... 807 at 50w input!

NEVER had HF mobile or 432!
