Hello NLRS Land.
The Minnesota QSO Party is a week from today, Saturday, February 7. The
contest period is from 8:00am (1400 UTC) to 6:00pm (0000 UTC). Full rules,
logging tools, county abbreviation, and full rover information can be found on
the MWA MnQP website at http://w0aa.org/mnqp.htm , or, ask me.
Here are some tips.
* The contest covers HF through VHF and you can submit both an HF and a VHF
log if you so wish. You cannot merge HF and VHF contacts into one log ...
they are two separate categories.
* The website has a downloadable software logging program as well as
downloadable paper forms ... you can submit paper OR electronic logs. Many contest
logging programs now include the MnQP. Please remember to indicate "NLRS"
as your local club as there is also a club competition. The website also
features an APRS tracking link for those mobiles that will be running APRS
(click on the "Rovers" link and find "APRS Rover "Real Time" MN State Tracking
Map" link). I'll be W0ZQ-15 with the puppy symbol.
* The contest exchange is your first name and your county. Its not
critical that its EXACTLY your first name, nick names are fine, just be consistent.
For example, if I was in Scott county, I would send "Jon in Scott county" on
SSB, and "JON SCO" on CW (for CW, see the county abbreviation list on the
website as all counties have three letter abbreviations).
* Call "CQ Minnesota QSO Party", or "CQ MNP" on CW. Remember, the World is
looking for MN stations, so DO NOT BE shy !!!! Call CQ !!!!!!
* Minnesota stations can work anyone, including other Minnesota stations.
* If you operate portable, or mobile, you are fresh meat in each new
county, just like rovers and grids. Mobile stations will be signing with their
county designation, so if I am mobile in Scott county, I will be signing as
"W0ZQ/SCO". There will be about 13 or 14 HF mobiles that will be out and about.
* Operating Freq's - VHF: There are no officially posted frequencies for
VHF. This is a low key event, so unless the bands are open, I would suggest
that activity should be on, and around, the calling freq's. If a rover is
out, they may want to post an operating freq, for example 144.210 or 144.220,
etc.
* Operating Freq - HF SSB: Centered on 1.870, 3.850, 7.250, 14.270,
21.350, 28.450.
* Operating Freq - HF CW: Centered on 1.850, 3.550, 7.050, 14.050, 21.050,
28.050.
That's it ! If you have any questions, check out _http://w0aa.org/mnqp.htm_
(http://w0aa.org/mnqp.htm) or ask me. This is a really fun laid back
event, so get on and make some Q's on HF, VHF, or both. Send in a log and don't
forget to list NLRS as your club.
W0ZQ will be out and about as a HF mobile station running 20, 40, and 80m CW
only from each stop. Given the current band conditions, its been tough
working in-state on the HF bands, even the low bands. However, if anyone is
looking for me,or any of the other mobiles, 40m and 80m would be the best. I
plan to be calling CQ MNP from each of my 11 county stops on 80, 40, and 20m, in
that order, very close to the HF CW frequencies noted above ... this
includes midday too. If those frequencies are in use, I typically move UP to find
a clear spot, but I may have to move down, so you will need to tune to find
me. Since I operate as a solo mobile, I stop to operate and operate very
little while driving. I have listed my counties and Start & Stop times below -
look for me on 80m at the "Start" times, then 40m 20 to 25 minutes after
that. I will modulate my code speed per your transmission.
