Me again. FT857D owners, does your 857D seem to require a HIGH amt of current on "power on". Mine does... bounces two different Astron RS35 power supplys to the point that the dial lamps on Icon 810H on the same power supply blink. The speaker pops on the 857 pretty good too.
My Astron RS20 supply and a Astron 30amp switching supply are less effected by the Yaesu being turned on. (no blink)
I find this "very odd". The two Astron 35 amp supplies are of very different vintage plus one has been highly modified to improve performance. (Bought it used from NT0V).
Talking to Yaesu .... "try a different power supply". That was thier only comment. Perhaps I need to go back and visit with them again.
I was at last able to get a hold of Astron, maybe they were closed on Friday, they were not too helpful, but tried I think. They suggested:
(1) Hang a 10,000 Mfd cap across output of the RS35M
(2) Replace C3 (LM723 regulator compensation cap, .01 50V)
(3) Replace C1 (2200Mfd cap across the preregulated DC)
(4) For $28 replace the power supply PC board and see it acts the same.
This was before I tried the supply I got from Dennis. This all seems VERY strange. I really wonder if there is some kind of issue with the 857D?
Thanks for any insight.......
(I have replaced the LM723 and all pass transistors in the RS35M and CAREFULLY did a visual check on the entire supply and the result is unchanged.)
