This was our first UHF contest. We are scrambling to get ready to go on
vacation this week, so contest stuff had to take a distant place to that,
but I had high hopes of at least getting the 222 and 432 quagis on a rotor
about 30 feet up. Well, that didn't happen. We were stuck with a shorty 6
element yagi on 432 up 40 feet and the 222 quagi about 10 feet up, with
armstrong rotor.
I put in about four hours of op time, KC9JTL was probably in front of the
mic only about two hours. Once again, CW really pulled out some Qs for me,
so that's cool. I was happy to hear W9FZ/R more this time than in other
contests. I heard him in four grids, although I only managed to work him in
two. Best DX was 266 miles to WA9KRT on 432 and 180 miles to K0CQ on 222.
Here's the tally:
W9HQ
222 - 16 QSOs - 8 grids
432 - 17 QSOs - 8 grids
KC9JTL
222 - 7 QSOs - 4 grids
432 - 6 QSOs - 3 grids
Now, the goal is to have those quagis up about 40 feet and an
omni-directional antenna on 2 meters for the fall contest.
73,
David W9HQ
