It is indeed very sad news but comforting that the end came quickly.

I enjoyed numerous opportunities talking with Bob about technology and the
history of computing here in the Cities.  We had some common ties back to
CDC (as do many of the guys on this list) and I am currently the keeper
of one of Bob's other passions which was a computer he built in 1977-- An
Altair 680b.  I have restored it and it runs and am very proud to have it.
