[NLRS] DEMI MicroLO Problem

Hi all,
Been working on my 1136 LO today...with the board out of the case, the 
1136 LO signal looks great on the spectrum analyzer.  Put it in the case 
and I see all sorts of spurious.  Worked fine until I installed the 
brass clamp and thermistor over the crystal.  Thinking that was all I 
changed, I took it off and the LO went back to being clean with the 
board installed in the case.  Question...what are your thoughts on 
running the LO WITHOUT the thermistor heater?  It sure looks better on 
the spectrum analyzer, but will it drift so bad as to be useless?  Open 
to ideas...
