And if you don't have any actual attenuators handy, 100 feet of RG-58 is 
good for about 5 to 6 dB attenuation at VHF frequencies. Use as long a 
piece as you can find or assemble several pieces with connectors. I 
admit you can't know what PL259 coax connectors are doing to the 
impedance match, but hopefully the loss in the coax will smooth out most 
of the bumps.
