The FT897/FT857 radios also have a transverter mode. Its not the most
convenient to use, but it may be a feature of interest to you. Its
activated via one of the menus (ON or OFF) and when its ON, it will output
2 watts of RF on whatever band you have selected. You can also enter the
"display freq" so that if you have say a 222 transverter the display could
display "222.100" when your on 28.100 or 144.100, etc. Its a nice
feature, but not one that you can readily switch back and forth between it
and say the normal HF mode for "normal" shack use. Clare, K0CJ, uses this
mode with a FT897 with his 1296 transverter. The nice thing about it,
when activated, you automatically get the 2 watts fixed out - no other
monkey business to deal with.
