No. Unfortunately it is not a joke. In the metro area there are no 
available repeater pairs on 2M (there is usually some sort of waiting list 
to get a pair most of the time, as I understand it anyway...).

With the bulk of the D-Star interest also in the metro area, this was a 
"creative" way to get the 2M D-Star systems some space.

If they can go on 10k spacing, I wonder how they would work interleaved it 
the 145 rptr sub-band with its current 20k spacing.
