Hi Russ. There has been some informal discussion, but I don't believe
any plans have been set. The June VHF contest and Rovermania (UHF
contest) are on my front burner at the current time. If anyone would
like to suggest some different plans, plan A, plan B, etc, etc, perhaps
we can start some discussion.

In the past we have pushed pretty hard with respect to generating large
scores .... our 10gig contest standings have shown that. My only point
is that we should have some general agreement about what our goal is
.... is it to generate a big score or is it something else (oh ya, like
have fun !). The cost of gas could be a factor as well.

Here are some of the thoughts that I have heard about ..... like I
said, more discussion is needed.

Plan A: Back to The Lake. Do some coordinated activities over Lake
Superior. It may mean that some travel to the UP.

Plan B: Fixed site and rover pack. We have some experience with this
now (10gig & SBMS). We have found it more optimal for all involved if
there is ONE fixed site, albeit we can discuss this more. Fixed sites
that we have used before include Sisseton, Lonsdale, BuckHill, and
Flying Cloud.

Plan C: Long paths. A few of us have been discussing setting up some
long paths from various spots. It probably means CW, fewer QSOs, a
lower score, and a reduced probability of success.

Other plans ? One thought that I have is to use one of the days on one
weekend as a PR event .... find a spot that is accessible to many, get
the word out on the various repeaters and HF clubs, and do some "demo"
like work. We could use the same event to do more playing on 24 gig
too.

We also have two weekends to play with - one weekend could be used for
one type of event while the second is used in some other way. Also, not
everyone is going to be available and not everyone is willing or
capable of traveling. The cost of gas could be a factor.

So, lets keep the discussion going. One thing that I DO know is that
W0ZQ will be there and is willing to play.

Hello all,
It has been sometime but life has been crazy with lots
of change.
What is the plan for the contest (1st Leg) this year?
The teenagers seem interested so it would be fun to do
the UP of Michigan or the SD thing.
Let me know and I will nail the kids down on a
committment to the contest.
Cheers,
Russ
