My car is loaded with radios and antennas and looks mostly ready to roll.
My rovermania^3 plan is to activate one grid corner (EN22/EN32/EN23/EN33 near
Algona, IA) on Saturday and stay in the metro area on Sunday. I'm not sure
where I'll go Sunday, since it sounds like there will be a traffic jam of
rovers at Ridgeway Park.
The Thursday W0ZQ list put me on 222.110. I'm going to monitor 70cm
(432.110) on stacked loops as much as possible. My hope is this will help
me hear people calling me; so, if you don't find me on 222, try there -- but
listen carefully, since I'll be one of those weak ones you hear about :-)
I'll have a good beam on that band, too. Slow code is OK.
Start End
Algona EN33aa 13:00:00 14:00:00
Algona EN32ax 15:00:00 16:00:00
Algona EN22xx 17:00:00 18:00:00
Algona EN23xa 19:00:00 20:00:00
Eagan? EN34 08:30:00 09:30:00
MPLS EN35 10:30:00 11:30:00
I decided to start the contest in EN33 because the first hour is the busiest,
and if folks miss me in that grid they can find other rovers in EN33 later.
I hope to be near grid lines and be able to quickly "roll" between grids.
EN22 & EN23 are grids I've never operated from, and I want to work as many
of you as possible from them to collect Qs for a VUCC-R. The down side is
this is further out than I've successfully operated in previous contests.
This week I completed a DEMI 222 kit, which I plan to use on a 4el beam. I
did some diagnostic work on my 1296 transverter last night, and I may have
found and resolved the S9+ noise problem that has been present almost since
I got it.
I'm trying a "LSOTC" (Less Stuff On The Car) configuration, probably a copy
of what I used in the January contest: a simple mast mounted to the roof
rack. No tripod.
