I do believe that the 2005 ARRL UHF contest results are released and are now
available on the ARRL's Members Only site at
_http://www.arrl.org/contests/results/_ (http://www.arrl.org/contests/results/) . Many thanks to John,
K9JK, for the excellent write-up !
Nationally, in the SOLP class, we see N0KP in 2nd place chasing his nemesis,
K2DRH. In the SOHP class, we have KM0T 1st and W0GHZ 4th. In the Multi
class we have those never-say-die heroes of Buck Hill fame N0HJZ in 2nd and
the CVCC guys as K9CVC in 3rd. Finally, in the rover class, we swept 1st,
2nd, 3rd, and 5th places with W0ZQ/R, K0MHC/R, W9FZ/R, and KC0IYT/R. John,
K9JK/R placed 6th. Somehow we let NE8I/R "sneek" into 4th place .... I think
one more grid by Glen and they would have exchanged places.
So, did Rovermania II promote growth ? Yes, and no. First the Yes part.
Logs submission are up from last year, which were up from 2003 (yahoo!).
The log totals from 2002 through 2005 are 156, 140, 169, and 183. Now the
No part. Over the same time period, the number of rover logs was 24, 29,
35, and 32, so although there were fewer rovers in 2005 than in 2004, there
were more total logs. Being the optimist that I am, I am going to proclaim
victory and state that Rovermania II met its PRIMARY object of generating
growth. Congratulations to all who played around in this fun event and submitted
their logs.
So, what about those secondary Rovermania II agendas ? Well first off, the
NLRS rovers swept first, second, and third place. Pretty cool huh. We
placed second in the SOLP class, first and fourth in the SOHP class, and second
and third in the Multi class, all from a location far far away from the
northeast corridor. That's eight of the top twelve places in the four operating
classes ...... think about THAT for a while.
Lastly, check out the score from Mike, KM0T. What can I say. His score
was the largest score of ANY submission regardless of category. That's
right, one guy located in northwest Iowa outscored the entire W2SZ multi-op
group located in the corridor. How amazing is that ? Speaking with first
hand knowledge of having being on the other end of Mikes SDR set-up, Mike has
an outstanding station. If you have a few spare hours, check out his
website at _www.km0t.com_ (http://www.km0t.com) and his Rovermania II contest
write-up at _http://www.km0t.com/pages/uhf2005.htm_

In the Leagues write-up John, JK, asks if Rovermania will be back next year.
Next year the NLRS will be hosting the CSVHF Society conference, so
schedules will be busy. But, the answer is YES ! The primary goal for
Rovermania III will be 200 plus logs. The secondary goal will be rover mentoring
and getting the rovers out. Make sure you mark August 6-7, 2006 in your
calendar for the ARRL UHF contest and Rovermania III. If you are new to
roving and wonder what this is all about, please make sure that you check out the
Dog Pound at Central States in July. The W0ZQ/R will be there with a bunch
of others.

America, July 27 & 28, 2006 for the 40th annual Central States VHF Society
