[NLRS] Rovermania: Reaching out to others to generate growth

Hi Dan,
I just wanted to comment a little bit about the bottom paragraph where
I put "CRAVE" in bold. That was mine and you called me on something. :)
I am guilty of not just calling a general CQ very much on 144 and
above. I will do it much more when there's a contest, signs of a band
opening or some fairly distant station or a new call out there. I'm not
much at all for regular ragchewing, and that's not something I'm terribly
proud to admit. I realize that if folks only get on for contests, it makes
for a lot of dead time. It's just that the contests are so damn much fun
and they are guaranteed.
Another factor is that I have my rigs out in a separate shed, so when I'm
out here, it's often for "hunting" and not so much just "hanging out". I
also
learned so much about propagation from various internet resources ( the
6 meter chat site I mentioned some weeks ago www.dxers.info, as well
as the dxworld prop loggers and even a very active email list that is used
by TV and FM broadcast band DX'ers ) that I tend to check the
computer for early warning of openings. I realize that this is probably
irksome to many older hams, but since I learned about the hobby via
the internet and just got on the air 2 years ago, I thought I'd share my
limited experience.
Any efforts toward establishing roundtables or nets (especially those
with a focus toward reaching beyond the typical 100 mile range) get
my attention. Just so happens that often, Sunday night is not a radio
night for me. But I could definitely make more of an effort to check
into the NLRS nets and try to gauge propagation up your way.
In fact, as I review this, I've come up with a bit of a brainstorm
that I would like to talk about in a separate email. Look for that in a
bit.
73,
Todd KC9BQA
