I have always used my IC-706 for 6 meters. It has worked great for openings but does lack a good noise blanker and is not very sensitive. This weekend at the swap fest I found an IC-551D. I put it though a workout this evening and it seams to be ok. It cleaned up real good and it looks dam good! Audio report was great also. I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a Kenwood TS-2000 to replace my new IC-551D and IC-706. It looks like if there is anytime to dump an IC-706 it is now. Last look on e-bay was about $650 to $700 for Mk2G. I think the new IC-7000 will drop the price significantly when it is released this fall/winter.
Anyway, just looking for your experience.
Is the 551D a great radio?
Would the TS-2000 out perform the old IC-551D?
I like the sky command set up and allot of other features, but if I end up with another receiver like the 706 I would be disappointed. A local ham AE0BR has one and enjoys it. He uses it for all vhf/uhf work. He has been pretty happy. Reviews on e-ham look good but no one is referring to its performance on 6. Looking for some insight.
If I only had allot of money I would not need to ask these questions. I would only need more space!
Any info would be great!

p.s. Those who know Bill AE0BR, he is a new papa of a baby boy. I think the name is Ayden? Or maybe Dayton Hi Hi.
