Hi Duane. I've used a 2m DCI filter for years. My current 2m set-up is
a TS930 to DEMI transverter to the filter to a tube amp. My primary
reason for using it was that I was hearing some "trash", and with the
filter its gone. As I recall, the insertion loss spec's are pretty good
...... I know that I've played around with filter in, filter out, on weak
signals and I could not tell the difference ..... for EME that may be
different, but for terrestrial it did not seem to be detectable (by me
anyway). With all my VHF antennas on one mast (except for 6m) my 2m is
free from blocking when I transmit on any other band ..... can't say I
tried the filter in, filter out, test to see if that is why or if its just
"because". Transmitting on 2m does block my 222, but that is a fairly
wide-band transverter and a poor IF rig (that works great ! ).
Bottomline: I suspect you will not detect any loss by using DCI filters,
unless your on EME, and that having such filters will help to keep one
radio out of the other, buts it not a guarantee, especially when the filter
is before the final amp which can be generating some out-of-band junk. If
any of the out-of-band-junk is in-band on the desired freq, no amount of
filtering on the receiving side is going to help. I'm not aware of any
higher power commercial filters of the quality & capability of the DCI
design.
