Hi Guys
Don't know how many of you are aware that Gary and I have worked 17 times now
on 10Ghz snowscatter. I was gone 3 weeks around Christmas, or we would have had
more contacts.
Some observations .... between Gary and I (155miles) our tower systems are
real close to being in tropo range. We have worked on tropo with no radar
observable enhancement medium 18 times between end of July and winter arriving.
So far we have not seen any winter tropo on this path.
We find that ALMOST everytime we have attempted a 10Ghz Q when there IS radar
observable precip in the path, we can hear each other. I sure didn't know what
to expect on the snowscatter, but is seems to be little different on this path
than rain scatter. One difference is that we have seen, is that with very light
snow we have heard each other often T-9, with little or no doppler distortion.
We have worked with signals as strong as "S-5" on SSB as well as other 5-1CW Qs.
Gary runs a DSS dish and a watt, I run a DSS dish and right at 2 watts to the
10" length semi-rigid going to the feed.
I know this is different than the purpose of the recent posts. (Contacts from
home to home when no know summer paths exist.) My purpose is for general
information. Snowscatter is there if you want to use it and your local
conditions will allow operation. If YOU have a location that might allow a
"tower" system in the winter (but not summer because of leaves) .. think about
it. It sure is fun to be able to run 10Ghz at 11pm in a driving snowstorm with
30mph winds.
A few W0GHZ 10Ghz audio recordings and radar images of path enhancement are
posted on:

I plan on being on for the contest and hope to work you all ... Bands
6,2,222,432,1296 and 10Ghz
Have fun and don't allow the 10Ghz system batteries to run down :>)
