I finally got around to hauling the 10G equipment upstairs so I could listen
to the beacon out of the upstairs window.

It's not very strong here, varying from 31 up to 53 at times. Generally the
signal strength is around 51. I can't find any real peak, not even when
looking at the downtown buildings. It is audible 360 degrees, with some directions
a little better than others. I can hear it any time I have listened. The
dish is tilted up as high as it will go. My best direction seems to be straight
north.

In the past I received better signals off of downtown while looking out the
upstairs window. However, I have been having trouble on the lower microwave
bands ever since we put in new windows a couple of years ago. The old windows
were all wood. By the way, the tops of the buildings are visible through the
trees now that the leaves are gone.

Thanks for putting up the beacon Dave.

I thought I sent this yesterday, Tuesday. Since I forgot, here is an update
on the beacon. I have bee listening to it off and on. I looked for other
peaks earlier today and found an S5 peak at about 250º. This has been pretty
steady all day. I'm not sure why signals were weak in that direction before,
but they are good now. Interestingly, the path on that bearing passes through
three walls. In other directions the path is through only one wall or two
panes of glass in the window.
