Hello fellow 10ger's. It was a full weekend of Microwaving. I
wonder if we set off any Radar detectors on Interstate 29 over the weekend.
Lets start off with the negative stuff first. There very little in this
category be sides the Heavy fog, Horizontal rain with Hail and flat tires.
The rest was a lot better.
So into the positive side of the contest. Friday afternoon Me,
Tony, lenney, Glen and Chris show up in Sisseton. With time to kill I took
the time to find another spot to operate from. We had two all ready, But it
was 250 ft lower. I was lucky another 2000 Ft plus spot was located that
make two 2000ft camps. Feeling better, time to eat. It was supper time to
the Bowling alley for Steaks. They don't deliver pizza back in there hills.
5am Saturday morning off to local Restaurant for more Steak and eggs. Left
around 6:30 and with the local chatter on 46 was Ed and Linda so with all
the gang together out of town we went. The hill was still soft after all
that rain. The first Q was around 1237 Zulu ( 7:37am) with the Rover Pack,
We where off and running, shortly after that work the Lonsdale Boys 322k.
The 2 meter side band ( 144.260 ) was busy with allot of chatter. Around
noon there was a huge break, Still trying to figure that one out. Got to
work KM0T. He was on a camping trip. TNX Mike. Two hours later where back
at making Q's with the rover pack and with all that noise on 2 meters was
K0AWU and W0PHD up north rovering too that keep us busy, doing that
wonderful mode called CW ( Morse Code ) with hops at 290K plus that was a
required mode. Its was around 00:30 Zulu ( 7:30pm ) pack up and head back
down the hill for more Steaks, one needs to eat good when running a contest
with no breaks.
Sunday. Like I said Positive things only. We did not sleep well,
should I say a littlie on the red side on the Necks that is , it had to be
the altitude, anyway off to that other site that was located couple days
ago. Got set up and start rolling on the rover pack around 1300 Zulu. In
Between the rovers tried to work VE4MA. This a little strange, Me and Chris
tried for 10 mins and heard nothing. After that I heard Barry working Bill
so I talk to Barry and he said that he Heard Chris but Chris did not hear
Barry and I was able to hear Barry working Bill but He did not pick me up.
Strange like I said a 460K hop with nothing to show for. Sept we will try
again. Hay theirs KM0T again trying to work us, taking time out from the
beach. TNX's Mike Okay back to the rover pack for the second time mid
after noon conditions was not the best, BUT that's why we play in Southern
Minnesota for that reason. To be able to move in closer when conditions
would go soft. Try to do that on open water. To finish up the team got to
work Bill several more times. TNX Wally for the relays on 2, and Thank you
Bill and Wally for activating Northern Minnesota and Barry from up north
Ahh. Just a side note I heard allot of chatter from the VE's on 144.260
setting up scheds from what I could pick up.
Well its around 2148 Zulu ( 4:48pm ) start packing up the Equipment
and slide down what ever is left on the grill and talk about which way home.
Left camp at 5pm and drove straight for the house. For me it was 9:26 pm in
the drive way. Last. It was Hot on that hill a little windy around 10 to 15
all day was just enough to keep the Horse fly's away. I be leave with what
we have learned from the north shore, last year from the Dakotas and
playing around on the weekends. It made this weekend go real smooth and yes
there are some improvements we can make. I say we do the central part of
Minnesota again. This is only a ball park score for the first weekend of
contesting a score of 44,900. A BIG THANKS TO ALL OF US. CUL Dave N0KP
