Let's have FUN!

Today, I built a new tripod for a single 2m beam for my vehicle. The
beam is on a one foot chunk of Radio Shack metal masting. I strapped
a 2x4 across the luggage rack using square lashes. I used a hole saw
to cut a 1/2" deep indent in the middle of the 2x4. I used 19" of 1
1/4 PVC for the vertical portion. Then I used a quad T (like an x) at
the top. I aim it fore and aft. I drilled four holes in the sides of
the outlets aiming fore and aft. I took 1/4" nylon rope and tied
bowlines through these drilled holes. Then I ran the lines out as a
quadpod to tiedowns on the luggage rack using taut-line hitches with 3
backwraps. The lines can be tensioned holding the mast in the
vertical. Then I drop the metal mast chunk down in to the top of
this. Per Lenny, I have a 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 reducing flexible hub
coupler. I tighten the small end around the metal mast just below the
antenna. The wide end slips over one port of the 4-port X and adds
turning friction. I have a piece of light line on the front end of
the antenna that I'll use to walk the antenna around to desired beam
headings. On the fly, I just tether it to the front of the vehicle.
I tested it at 75mph today on a short run and I'm quite pleased.

Pictures tomorrow.
