Hi Gang:
I've sent these locations and times to ZQ and JT and I suspect they'll
get worked into the master spreadsheet within 24 hours.
My assigned cq'ing freq is 222.130 and 432.130 (and likely .130 on
other bands). I will have 222, 432, 903, 1.2, 2.3, and 10G.
First some thoughts. I'm out to work everyone frequently and often.
I want to work fixed stations--from the Dakotas/Iowa to
Michigan/Indiana. As a result, I'm only activating 8 grids because I
recognize that RMII is a huge operating challenge for fixed stations.
If I were to just pop up briefly in a grid, there's no way all fixed
stations will be able to work me _and all the other rovers too_ during
that time. So I'm generally showing 2 hours operating time per grid.
I've allowed 30 minutes travel time between some of them when really
only 10 will be required. I'm hoping that slop will keep me on
schedule.
I will frequently say my grid on my transmissions. If I'm operating
during what is supposed to be a travel time, listen to the grid I say
and see if I'm still in the old grid or if I'm in the new grid.
Next, I will always try to clear out the frequency before moving up.
But there is a fine point here. If I take too long, the fixed station
I'm all peaked up on will have me taking all his time. If you know
I've just arrived in a grid, and you know you are not on boresite for
where I'm peaked up, let's agree to meet again in a few minutes.
Let's understand the challenge the large multiband fixed stations have
in trying to work ALL the rovers completely. Doesn't mean they have
priority in my eyes, it just means I think we all need to be smart to
get all stations worked.
I intend to stay up for the entire 24 hours and sleep afterwards. I'm
traveling in the middle of the night from one major operating area to
my next area. Also, I'm trying to activate the more unique grids
53/54/55 during good operating hours. Yes, EN54 is from 0330 to 0530.
If you want that mult on 903, or 2.3, then you'll want to catch me
then. I think there are some other fixed stations who have 432 and
1296 in that grid.
I can see that to work other rovers, I'm going to have to use my
octupus arms to listen on other freqs while I"m carrying guys up the
bands. :-)
Oh, like Rich mentioned, I, too, will help set up and handoff stations
that are far apart but hearing each other. For instance, I'm
operating a bit more easterly than most NLRS'ers. If Michigan is
hearing you work me, I'll try and match you both up. Be ready to go
well up the band (like .160) if necessary. Tailending is
fine--particularly if I'm moving to the next band.
Sure, SSB is "faster" than CW--if both parties are hearing well
enough. At a certain point of poor signals, it's quicker to just cut
to CW and finish up. Remember, no CW is too slow for me. A Q is a Q.
Our exchanges are VERY standardized. Just calls and grids and TU's or
73's
Remember, it's only 24 hours. There's plenty of time the rest of the
weekend to meet your other commitments.
Whooo boy! This is gonna be fun!
