Just an update on the UHF beacon...

Got the old GE Mastr II exciter board modified (did some good guessing!)
and have it running on 432.324 MHz. My solar panel from eBay is on the
way, so now all I need is a 12V gel cell battery, a horizontal loop
antenna and a weatherproof box. (Well, have to order a new IDer
integrated circuit...have it here somewhere but can't find it. Easier
to just order another at $6. Then I will find the other chip anyway so
I'll have to turn out another beacon.) I have a few more of the Mastr
IIs left, so I probably will build a few more beacons over time and get
them up at our various tower sites. Hoping to get the current one at
our tower near Holcombe, WI. EN45 (45 deg. 17 min. North, 91 deg. 07
min. West). Not sure how high up, but may be able to go close to 200
feet AGL at 200 mW or so. More later when it is on the air full time!
