Hi All,
We were one of the ROVERS on the second weekend of the 10 GHz contest.
WB0LJC, N0NAS, and W0AUS started at Monticello at a bit before 8:am on
Saturday. Worked W0JT, K0FQA, and W0GHZ. W0AUS and K0FQA tried 24 GHz but
did not make it. WB0LJC was having receiver troubles. He had it working
the night before but did not work in the morning. At the next site he found
it did work and the thought the RF from the towers at the Monticello site
was desensing his receiver as trying it the next site he was receiving ok.
Gary missed Sisseton and Mt. Toms as a result.
We tried working N0AKC at the Elk Mond site but did not hear them. I
tried to call but neither of the two numbers listed worked.
In the two days the three of us worked 12 sites with Gary and Doug worked 2
more. The plan was to work 18 sites or more in the two days but our
time efficency was not that good.
The planning and scouting that Gary, WB0LJC did was fantastic. If we had
been looking for the sites with out his detailed directions we would have
only worked half as many sites and with not as good a success.
The last three sites we worked with Sisseton had to be done with cw and
better ears than I have to do it very fast.
My Dish blew over at Lonsdale and I had to make an emergency repair with
tape to put the feed horn back on the dish.
It was very helpful to be able to contact Gary, W0GHZ, in coordinating with
Sisseton and WA2VOI.
We had a two meter link but the amp started to oscillate half way through
the first day and we had to stop using it. The 4 element beam that Jon,
W0ZQ, let us use sure helped.
When we were at Cannon Falls, EN34nl, we worked W0JT, K0SHF, W0GHZ , W0KP
and N0HZO off of downtown Minneapolis.
I have not worked on the scores yet but did know that the longes haul was
209 miles from Nerstrand,
EN34li to Sisseton EN15LJ.
Again want to thank you Guys that worked Sisseton, Gary, W0GHZ, for the
contacts and help in coordinating, the other stations in town and KC0P and
N0HZ0, and WB0LJC, for the planning and putting up with me.
I am sure this experience will help with future planning of how we operate
the 10 GHz contest.
