No E, no aurora, and propagation wasn't all that great either. I thought
conditions would have been better than they were .... it seemed like they were
getting better towards the end of the contest on Sunday. The high bands
were often a struggle, but at other times they were fairly good.
I thought it would be interesting to look at the use of CW during the
contest. Almost 8% of my contacts were via CW with a much higher distribution as
you go up the bands. CW and microwaves both have a "c" and a "w" in them.
Highlights:
* My best score for a September contest, THANKS to the rovers and for all
who got on. As K0AWU said earlier I too was a bit apprehensive before the
start of the contest due to the lack of chatter, but boy the local activity was
great.
* Working K0SGI on 10gigs on a 8 mile fully obstructed path from my deck
.... we did have a shot of some sorts over the river valley but lots of trees on
both ends.
* Working K0DAS/R on 2304 while they were on the move down I-35E .... they
held the horn out the window (much to the distress of some of the local
citizens).
* Working the dynamic duo of K0PG/R & N9ILT/R a bunch of times
* Great activity from Wisc and especially EN44. The "nine" key got a good
workout.
* The new 3456 worked OK .... had a couple of Q's with K0MHC/R and one with
KM0T (best DX on that band) after trying several times throughout the contest
(tnx Mike).
Lowlights:
* Missing W9FZ/R in several grids on 2304 ... don't know if its my station
or just conditions. At times 2304 was very tough going.
* Missing some of the other rovers ..... can you ever work them all ????
* Despite the weather looking promising no good tropo opening (or E's or
Au).
