Yes, we'll have to try this year. I hope to have similar power before summer, and a 2' dish. Portable operation only, though. I doubt that either 2m or 432MHz will work as liasion. Schedules and telephone are the only practical method, I'm afraid.
Without being negative, I hope you realize its a LONG haul from Minneapolis to Rapid City...almost 500 miles. That's going to take some pretty intense storms (40,000' tops) to give us both something to work with. Also, they will have to lie along an Aberdeen-Huron-Mitchell line, with Huron being ideal; again, so we both can see them.
Where are you located in "Rapid City ?" What's your elevation ? I assume you have a 0-degree horizon to the east ? Bearing will be roughly 86 degrees. We'll have to keep and eye on things blowing up in SD west of Huron.
