Hi Al. We are all looking forward to working you on 10 GHz soon ! I
think our experiences on 10 GHz is that we can outtalk "typical" 2m or 432
field set-ups ranges (100 watts and a small yagi) and that cell phones are
the way to go. Another possibility may be to try 40m, or, more antenna
on a 2m/432 link, but those darn cell phones are pretty convenient. I
know that there use kind of cuts against the grain .... I wasn't too
thrilled about using them at first (being a "true ham"), but after trying
2m liaison links versus cell phone, the cell phone is a lot easier. For
"local" stuff we often use FM, either simplex or through a repeater. On
occasion some of the portable stations go to 144.260 with good luck for the
medium length paths. Then again, sometimes we just set up skeds using
the reflector and go with that.
