Hi all,
I have to say I had a good time. I was on the north shore team. I had
a hard time getting started up on Thompson rest stop. Being rather
inexperienced at this it took me a while to get the knack of aiming the
dish, there are some mods to be made here! Tuning around sure gave my
tuning knob a workout, again though, once I got the hang of it, it was
much easier. John JT has describe the conditions we had to put up with,
really great weather from my perspective ;)
My equipment worked well in general, the xstal heater helped alot I
think, not much drift. All of the batteries worked great, never needed
the main spare. Doug NAS had a good idea that I have adopted, just run
an extension cord out of the back of the truck and to the rig. This
really worked well as I didn't have to turn the rig off from 10am on Sat
until I quit working on Sunday 4:00pm. Got to love that 50 AH battery!
I have several mods in mind for future use.
I do have some questions for the UP people when they get back and rested
up. Namely on Sunday when conditions were tough I'm wondering how my
signals compared to Jon ZQ for instance (or others). Was his greater
power out and larger dish a big plus??? How did my signal sound, are
there any improvements you'd recommend I make there?
Well, again this was fun but tiring, it's a good thing the 2 weekends
are a month apart!
Thanks all
Mike
